Located in the heart of the Downtown Lawrence Historic District, Hernly Associates assisted the Owner of this historic property to apply for and receive State of Kansas Preservation Tax Credits for exterior masonry preservation work. The preservation included cleaning and pointing of the south facing stone wall and removal of paint and pointing of the street front brick facade.

Removal of paint is a sensitive process, which must not use sand-blasting or high-pressure water cleaning. Mild chemical paint stripper, low-pressure cleaning, and proper disposal of paint residue are necessary to assure that masonry components are not damaged and that lead-based paint is not released improperly into the environment.
