In 1931 the Lawrence Journal World newspaper noted that “The Lawrence Poultry Packing company, maintains a dependable market for poultry and eggs. Their dressed poultry, the Jayhawk brand, is served on the best tables in New York City and is considered one of the finest brands of poultry in that city.” The Lawrence Poultry company was housed in this circa 1918 building on Pennsylvania Street in the heart of Lawrence’s historic industrial district. The south half of the building has now been transformed into a new office use for a legal firm and the remaining space awaits new tenants. Multiple original overhead door openings, previously infilled with masonry, were reopened and glazed using new aluminum storefront with mullion patterns to mimic overhead doors.
