McGilley Fieldhouse - University of St. Mary

Client: University of St. Mary

Location: Leavenworth, KS

Use: Intramural athletics and practice center

Size: 29,725 s.f., plus 8,900 s.f. mezzanine

Completion: 2004

A state-of-the-art recreational facility, McGilley Field House is University of St. Mary's intramural athletic and practice center, featuring three full-sized basketball courts, batting cage, workout room, lockers & showers, and a mezzanine with bleachers and coach’s offices.

The building compliments existing campus architecture with its red sloped metal roof and brick accents.  The structure is pre-engineered steel and the elevator is kept outside of the rectangular building footprint to eliminate penetrating the roof.

By using a Design/Build project delivery method, the design and construction cost was tailor-fit to the University’s goals and budget.  Strickland Construction, in Olathe, KS, was the contractor for the project.  The Hernly/Strickland Design/Build team has worked together since 1985, completing hundreds of projects in a design/build capacity.
