Baldwin City Hall

Baldwin City, KS (1994)
803 Eighth St
The Baldwin City Hall is located in the heart of Baldwin City, KS. The attached one-story mid-century modern style building was constructed as the Baldwin City Library in 1962. The building has a rectangular plan and a flat roof with a parapet, and the building is constructed with a concrete block finish with a buff-colored brick, typical of the 1950s and 60s. It was remodeled and converted into the City Hall in 1994.
Hernly assisted with the 1994 remodel. The interior was redesigned from a library to office spaces. This allowed it to be transformed into a functional City Hall. The storefront entrance was updated, completed with two large windows and a metal awning. The interior features two small rooms and a mezzanine, which can be accessed by a spiral staircase. The rooms and staircase were added as part of the remodel. The space was reconfigured and a wood-paneled counter was added to divide the space. The masonry, ceiling, walls and floors were all repaired and made to match the existing. The space was also made accessible.
The City Hall is a non-contributing property of the Baldwin City Downtown Historic District that was approved for the Register of Historic Kansas Places in February, 2025. The building houses the Baldwin City Administration, City Clerk, Municipal Court and Utility Billing.
